[I am a chemist - part 4] - In part 1 of [I am a chemist], we worked with a 2.5 liter round bottom flasks around the size of women's basketball. Now we are on to bigger things ! This stir tank glass reactor (right) can hold more than 2 times the volume. The circulator thermostat (left) helps to control the temperature of the reaction.

[I am a chemist - part 3] Remember when particles migrate to the magnet it leaves behind the supernatant? If big particles are made, they migrate to the magnet much faster thus no/little particles are left behind. Since there are very little particles left, the supernatant is much lighter in color. Can you tell which tube in the picture have smaller particles?.

[I am a chemist - Part 2] - When particles are placed next to a magnet, the particles migrate (black smear at the back) towards it, leaving behind the liquid (aka supernatant) it was re-suspended in. This type of particles clear within minutes !
